Spreading over 18 acres inside the Rajaji National Park, Beatles Ashram is one of the popular yoga and Meditation Centers run by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. This ashram was built in 1961, having 84 huts on the bank of river Ganga. This is also known as Chaurasi Kutiya.
People from all over the country and abroad came here to meditate. The famous Beatles band of the 60s came here from Britain for meditation and peace. John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr of the Beatles rock band all four came to Rishikesh in 1968 and stayed in this ashram of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. Here he took the education of meditation.
That is the main reason fans of the Beatles band are still coming here by its name. While in this ashram, the Beatles wrote about 40 songs, which were later included in their famous albums “White Album” and “Abbey Road.”
In 2003, the forest department acquired this area, which opened for tourists in 2015. For visiting the Beatles Ashram, Rs 150 is charged from Indians and Rs 600 from foreigners by the Forest Department.
