Vashistha Cave is located at “Gooler Village.” The total distance of this cave is 25Kms from Rishikesh on Badrinath Highway. This holy place belongs to the great saga Vashistha, the Saptarishis. Vashistha Rishi was the great Manas son of Lord Brahma Guru of Lord Rama. It is believed that sage Vashishta used to do penance at this holy and peaceful place. Being situated at the bank of River Gange, the magnificent view surroundings allure many tourists. Along with the religious view, one can also enjoy a bath in the Ganges. Presently Vashistha Cave is maintained by Swami Purushottamananda Trust.
A Shivling was installed inside the cave, which is a major attraction of the devotees.
It’s considered that “Sage Vashishtha came here to commit suicide in the Ganges river after the death of his children, but the holy Ganga gave him life. Later Vashishtha Rishi’s wife Arundhati was impressed with the fantastic beauty of this place and decided to stay here. Vashistha Rishi started meditating here.
You can visit here anytime throughout the year except when the weather is too hot or rainy.
Rishikesh bus stop is located at a distance of (25 km) from Vashishta cave. One can hire a taxi or go by bus from the Rishikesh bus stand. The nearest railway station is around (23km) from the Cave. Jolly Grant Airport is situated at a distance of (39 km).
